On Monday, October 7th, Lucille went to Sick Kids to have 5 teeth removed in preparation for her upcoming bone graft surgery. The teeth that needed to be removed were in various spots in her mouth, including her upper gums and the roof of her mouth. These teeth needed to be removed as they were right along the path of where the bone graft will be inserted into her upper gums. The procedure was a relatively quick one, and she was done within thirty minutes.
She was so brave and awesome throughout the whole process and we are tremendously proud of her. Her recovery has been going well and aside from some slight pain and discomfort/swelling, it's been relatively smoothe. The day after the surgery, we received a call from Sick Kids confirming her surgery date for her bone graft surgery, which will take place on December fourth. We're really happy to have a date and not be left in limbo for too long. The teeth extraction surgery was really helpful as it gave Lucille an idea of what going under general anesthetic feels like as that was one of her concerns heading in. The most difficult part of the surgery for Lucille probably would have been when the orthodontist told her that she has to keep her palate expander in until her surgery in December. She was really hoping that she wouldn't have it after her teeth were removed, but things need to stay in place up until the next procedure. December 4th will be here before we know it and the recovery from that surgery will bot be brief. We appreciate all your support and well wishes.
