Sick Kids #2

A bit delayed on this one as things have been hectic around here lately. So, less than a week after Lucille's original appointment when she got her mouth plate, Esther had to take her back to Toronto as the plate was rubbing against her gums and making her scream in agony when starting to feed. Sick Kids was of course amazing and told us to come right in and they'd take care of it. They confirmed that the plate was in fact rubbing as she had a sore on her gums from the friction. Dr. B shaved some parts off of the plate and we were good to go. Happy to report that feedings are no longer filled with screams!
On Thursday, November 27th, Esther and Lucille (and Grandma) headed to Toronto for Lucille's second official appointment. Dr. B said that she thought Lucille's gums had grown closer together which is crazy to think given that she's only had her plate in for two weeks. However, she's growing like crazy in general so I wouldn't be surprised if it's actually true. Today's appointment was really only to have her lip tape applied. Esther was shown how to properly apply it by the staff. The purpose of this tape is to gently stretch the lips closer together so that surgery is easier and she has less scaring. That's really it for the visit, more tape for our little girl. Changing the tape is not one of Lucille's favourite things to do...far from it. She shows off her lung prowess when the tape pads need to be taken off her cheeks, but she recovers quickly :) This Thursday we have appointment #3 where her mouth plate will be adjusted to continue to guide her gums towards one another. I've included three new pictures. The first is her without any tape or plate.  The second is just her lip tape. The third is with everything.
Til next time,
Brandon
