Today was beautiful. So many wonderful things happened that just made the day/appointment enjoyable. We decided to take Atticus with us to today's appointment as we thought it would be a great opportunity for him to see the hospital.
Beautiful Moment The First: We made it to Sick Kids from Waterloo in less than an hour and a half. It never ceases to amaze me how leaving after rush hour makes such a difference in your drive.
We got to the hospital early and were seen almost right away even though we were a good half hour early. We were all decked out in somethings festive (minus Esther but we won't judge her for that) I had my Santa hat on, Atticus had on a Santa hat with an attached beard and Lucille was in her 'Santa's Helper' sleeper which is frickin' adorable.
Beautiful Moment The Second: The staff were gushing over the kids and how cute they looked. It was quite the greeting to the waiting room.
Esther and Atticus hung out in the waiting room while I took Lucille in to see Dr. B. As I said in a previous post, this appointment was simply a checkup to see how her gums and lip were progressing.
Beautiful Moment The Third: Dr. B is such an incredibly warm, caring, and gentle woman. She does her job so very well. She took out Lucille's plate and tape to see her gums and lip clearly and was absolutely amazed at how much progress has been made. When Lucille was born, the cleft in her gums was 15 mm wide. It's now 2mm...just let that sink in for a second. I've attached an image of just how significant of a measurement difference that actually is for less than a month and a half with the plate. Dr. B made a slight adjustment to the plate as Lucille had a bit of an irritation on her gum.
Beautiful Moment The Fourth: Lucille and I came back to the waiting room to find our friend Katye had arrived for a visit. Katye lives and works in Toronto. She doesn't live far from the hospital and had yet to meet Lucille. We sat and had a lovely snack/chat together in the food court. Katye is quite simply amazing. We miss her dearly and so enjoy being in her presence.
Beautiful Moment The Fifth: While we were enjoying our snack, a gentleman came around with a bag filled with stuffed animals. He approached Atticus and asked us if it was okay if he gave Atticus a stuffed animal. We said OF COURSE! They were wearing jackets from a company called "Labour Force Contracting". Sick Kids is quite obviously filled with kids, both patients and siblings of patients. It was such a beautiful thing to see people not associated with the hospital spreading warmth and love. See the pic below of the puppy that has been named Digby! (credit to Esther on that one)
Beautiful Moment The Sixth: On our way home, we were driving down Bay Street and saw a man carrying three pizzas. Just as we passed him we saw him hand a homeless man a pizza and shake his hand. We are inundated with some pretty negative stuff in the news each and every day. It was comforting to see that there are some pretty amazing people out there doing their part to make change in this world. A pretty special thing to see at Christmas.
It was an awesome day all around. We are now back at home and looking forward to spending Christmas at home for the first time ever! We have so much to be thankful for this year and are grateful to our friends and family (that's all of you guys reading!) for your love and support the last few months. We hope to see as many of you as we can over the holidays. A very Merry Christmas/Happy Hanukkah to each and every one of you!
HO HO HO!
Brandon
