Today was another simple routine checkup for Lucille at Sick Kids. After less than two months with the plate, Lucille's gums are officially touching. Dr. Bi was totally amazed. Lucille will continue to wear the plate up until her surgery to ensure that the gums maintain position. Over the next two months, our focus/goal is to stretch her lip closer to the centre of her mouth. The next significant adjustment will be when Lucille has the nose stent attached to her plate to stretch her nostril in preparation for her surgery. She'll have this piece for eight weeks prior to her surgery. We have no solid date for when her surgery will be as it is dependent on her progress in regards to her lip as well as wait times for higher priority patients/surgeries.
One thing that we have found pretty great about this whole process so far is that it allows us to be involved. It gives Esther and I some responsibility in her preparation for surgery and that's pretty special for us as parents.
Lucille is growing like crazy. Her hair is coming in and she's packing on the pounds!!! We love her more and more every day.

ReplyDeleteOur little girl is so strong, nothing is going to hold her back. Her cousins have a Wonder Woman costume that she will inherit, it will suit her perfectly!
